Crazy! CMA CGM's peak season surcharge timing has been precisely revealed
2026-10-26

CMA CGM has announced the implementation of Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) for containerized shipments originating from China, South America, and Morocco, effective across specified trade lanes and timeframes between 22 October and 15 November 2026. The surcharge levels are determined by trade route, container type (20-ft or 40-ft), equipment category (dry or refrigerated), and cargo classification, and are subject to regulatory filing requirements where applicable.

PSS for Shipments Originating from China

• For dry cargo shipments from South China to Durban, South Africa, a PSS of USD 1,050 per TEU will apply to containers loaded between 22 and 31 October 2026.

• For dry cargo shipments from North and Central China to Durban, a higher PSS of USD 1,150 per TEU will apply to containers loaded between 28 and 31 October 2026.

• Both surcharges apply uniformly across all cargo types (general, hazardous, and project cargo).

• CMA CGM confirms that these PSS amounts may be incorporated into the published ocean freight rate, pending compliance with local tariff filing obligations.

PSS for Shipments Originating from South America

Effective 15 November 2026, a PSS will be levied on dry cargo exports from Brazil (excluding northeastern regions), Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. Excluded from this measure is cargo originating from Rosario, Argentina, destined for the Middle East Gulf.

• Applicable rates: USD 700 per 20-ft container and USD 900 per 40-ft container.

• Geographic scope: All dry cargo shipments to Northern Europe (including the Baltic and Scandinavian subregions), the Mediterranean, the Adriatic, the Black Sea, North Africa, the Middle East, and the Red Sea.
