Boom! GT Lines' new route bypasses all transshipment ports
2026-10-25

GT Lines will launch the Khorfakkan–Berbera Express (KBX), a new direct container shipping service linking Khorfakkan Port (United Arab Emirates) and Berbera Port (Somaliland), commencing operations in November 2026 with biweekly sailings.

The KBX service follows a port rotation of:

Khorfakkan → Berbera → Khorfakkan

While GT Lines has confirmed the service’s operational timeline and frequency, vessel assignments and the exact date of the inaugural sailing have not yet been disclosed.

Strategic significance of KBX

The KBX service strengthens maritime connectivity between the UAE and the Horn of Africa, integrating Berbera Port into GT Lines’ broader regional feeder network. Through seamless intermodal linkage at Khorfakkan—a key hub operated by Gulftainer—customers gain access to extended logistics capabilities, including transshipment opportunities, bonded warehousing, and multimodal connections to global trade lanes.

This initiative expands GT Lines’ regional footprint, complementing its existing services from Khorfakkan and Sharjah to major markets across Asia—including China, India, and Pakistan—as well as intra-Gulf destinations. It reflects GT Lines’ continued commitment to enhancing infrastructure-led trade facilitation in emerging corridors.
