Hai An Transport and Stevedoring Joint Stock Company (“Hai An”) has entered into a shipbuilding contract with China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) for the construction of two 1,900-TEU feeder container vessels. The Boards of Directors of both parties approved the agreement on 16 October 2026. Under the contract, CSSC will construct the vessels at its Chinese shipyard, with Hai An’s total investment capped at USD 70 million.
Each vessel will have a nominal capacity of 1,928 TEUs—comprising 1,284 TEUs on deck and 644 TEUs below deck—and will be equipped with 313 reefer sockets, enabling carriage of up to 280 refrigerated containers. Hull numbers H2692 and H2693 have been assigned; construction is scheduled to commence in mid-2028, with delivery targeted for 31 October 2029 (first vessel) and 30 November 2029 (second vessel).
Technical specifications are as follows:
Capacity: 1,928 TEUs
Length overall: 172 m
Breadth: 27.5 m
Moulded depth: 14.6 m
Deadweight: 24,415 tonnes
Design draught: 10.0 m
Maximum speed: 18.5 knots
Operating range: ~11,000 nautical miles
Reefer capacity: 313 sockets (supporting up to 280 refrigerated containers)
Propulsion will be provided by MAN B&W 6S60ME-C10.5 main engines, compliant with IMO Tier III NOₓ emission standards. The vessels will incorporate high-pressure selective catalytic reduction (HP-SCR) systems, shore-power connection capability (IEC 62681 compliant), exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS) for SOₓ control, modern GMDSS-compliant maritime communication equipment, and environmentally compliant non-toxic antifouling coatings. Additionally, low-friction hull coatings—certified to meet regulatory requirements in key jurisdictions including the United States and Australia—will be applied to reduce hydrodynamic resistance and improve fuel efficiency.
This investment forms a strategic component of Hai An’s fleet modernisation and sustainability initiative, aimed at expanding operational capacity, enhancing energy efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and strengthening long-term competitiveness across regional feeder networks.
