The surcharge will rise from USD 140 to USD 215 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU), applicable to both import and export shipments.
Scope of Application:
This revised surcharge applies to shipments covered under a Maersk ocean bill of lading where Maersk arranges domestic trucking—either to or from the consignee’s or shipper’s premises—within the United States.
It will be applied to shipments with a Price Calculation Date on or after 1 November 2026. The charge will appear as a distinct line item on the bill of lading, identified by the IFS (Import Fuel Surcharge) or EFS (Export Fuel Surcharge) code.
Rationale:
Maersk has cited sustained increases in U.S. diesel fuel prices as the primary driver for this adjustment. Specifically, the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) 13-week average diesel price has risen by more than USD 0.10 per gallon, exerting upward pressure on linehaul, drayage, depot handling, and first-mile transportation costs.
