Maersk has indicated that this measure responds to sustained volatility in global energy markets, including elevated and unpredictable fuel prices as well as regional constraints on fuel supply availability. The carrier reserves the right to review, revise, or withdraw the surcharge in light of evolving market conditions and operational requirements.
For non-Federal Maritime Commission (non-FMC) shipments, the PCD corresponds to the estimated departure date of the first ocean-going vessel specified in the most recent booking confirmation. For FMC-regulated shipments, the PCD is defined as the date on which Maersk—or an authorized agent acting on its behalf—takes physical possession of the final container listed on the applicable transport document.
