MSC extends surcharge coverage to nearly half of the Mediterranean
2026-10-09

This adjustment reflects ongoing security concerns arising from persistent piracy incidents in the waters surrounding the Arabian Peninsula, which continue to disrupt maritime operations and necessitate rerouting of commercial vessels through alternative, often longer and more costly, transit corridors.

Applicable surcharges are as follows:

- Piracy Risk Surcharge: USD 55 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU)

- Suez Canal Surcharge: USD 36 per TEU

- Combined surcharge (where both apply): USD 91 per TEU

The extension applies to all containerized cargo originating from Asia destined for Derince and Port Said West (East Mediterranean), as well as the following ports across North Africa, the Western Mediterranean, and the Adriatic Sea:

Agadir, Algiers, Alicante, Ancona, Annaba, Arrecife de Lanzarote, Augusta, Bar, Barcelona, Bari, Bejaia, Benghazi, Cagliari, Cartagena, Casablanca, Civitavecchia, Durrës, Fos-sur-Mer, Genoa, Gioia Tauro, Khoms, La Spezia, Las Palmas, Livorno, Málaga, Marsaxlokk, Misurata, Nador, Naples, Oran, Ploče, Pozzallo, Puerto del Rosario, Ravenna, Salerno, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Skikda, Palermo, Trapani, Tripoli, Tunis, Valencia, and Venice.
