The updated network expands port coverage through key gateway terminals—including Port Said (Egypt), Lomé (Togo), and Pointe-Noire (Republic of the Congo)—and reconfigures hub-based connections to optimize cargo flow across the region.
Revised service rotations:
WAF 2: Algeciras → Tangier → Dakar
WAF 3: Port Said → Algeciras → Tangier → Lomé → Abidjan → Tema → Apapa
WAF 6: Port Said → Tangier → Algeciras → Tema → Apapa → Pointe-Noire
WAF 7: Tangier → Conakry
WAF 9B/C: Algeciras → Leixões → Lisbon → Praia → Mindelo
WAF 10: Tangier → Nouakchott → Nouadhibou → Nouakchott
WAF 12: Tangier → Banjul
Notably, the Tema and Apapa calls on WAF 3 are designated exclusively for West African export cargo.
In addition, Maersk will maintain direct services to Monrovia (Liberia) via WAF 5X and to Freetown (Sierra Leone) via WAF 7X—both operating from Tangier—pending further operational review.
Optimized transshipment architecture
To support improved European cargo routing, Maersk has consolidated and rationalized its interline connections at major regional hubs:
Abidjan: Serves San Pedro (Côte d’Ivoire) via WAF 8; Onne (Nigeria) and Takoradi (Ghana) via WAF 5
Lomé: Connects to Cotonou (Benin) via MW 2
Pointe-Noire: Provides access to Luanda (Angola) and Walvis Bay (Namibia) via WAF 13; Malabo, Bata, and Libreville (Equatorial Guinea & Gabon) via 23F; Matadi (Democratic Republic of the Congo) via 23D; Cabinda (Angola) via 23E; and Kribi (Cameroon) via FEW 6
Tema: Links to Douala (Cameroon) via 23N
This revised hub-and-spoke structure centralizes onward distribution through Abidjan, Lomé, Pointe-Noire, and Tema—thereby streamlining cargo routing for European exports destined for multiple West and Central African markets.
