This surcharge applies to dry container shipments originating from India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka and destined for South Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.  

Applicable Rate:  

- USD 1,500 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) and per forty-foot equivalent unit (FEU), inclusive of standard dry containers of both sizes.  

Scope of Application:  

• Origin ports: India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka  

• Destination ports: South Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands  

• Cargo type: All standard dry containers

Rationale:  

Maersk has introduced the ECS in response to sustained disruptions across global maritime networks impacting the S5S corridor. These include persistent voyage deviations, extended transit times, increased equipment repositioning requirements, systemic capacity constraints, and elevated operational expenditures. The surcharge is intended to offset incremental costs associated with preserving service reliability, schedule integrity, and overall network resilience on this trade lane.  

Maersk will continue to monitor market dynamics and regulatory developments, and any future adjustments will be communicated through its official advisory channels. The implementation of this surcharge remains subject to applicable laws and regulations, statutory notice periods, and existing contractual obligations.
