Exploded! MSC's FAK freight rates for four South Asian countries surge
2026-08-08

MSC has introduced revised Freight All Kinds (FAK) ocean freight rates for containerized shipments from South Asia to Antwerp and Valencia, effective 16 August 2026. These rates will remain in force until further notice, subject to a final expiry date of 31 August 2026.

The updated FAK tariffs apply to general cargo originating from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. Rate levels are specified as follows:

  • From Colombo and Chattogram: USD 6,050 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) to both Antwerp and Valencia;

  • From Colombo: USD 6,350 per forty-foot equivalent unit (FEU);

  • From Chattogram: USD 6,850 per FEU;

  • From Nhava Sheva and Port Qasim: USD 6,150 per TEU to Antwerp, USD 6,250 per TEU to Valencia;

  • From Ennore: USD 6,350 per TEU to Antwerp, USD 6,450 per TEU to Valencia

  • From Kolkata: USD 6,450 per TEU to Antwerp, USD 6,550 per TEU to Valencia.

On all the above origin–destination pairs, the applicable rate for forty-foot dry and high-cube containers is identical to that for twenty-foot containers—i.e., no size-based differential applies.

The published FAK rates incorporate base ocean freight and selected origin-specific surcharges. The following charges remain separately applicable and are not included in the FAK tariff: Bunker Recovery Charge (BRC), Emissions Trading System (ETS) surcharge, Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS), FuelEU Maritime surcharge, origin and destination terminal handling charges (THC), carrier security fees, and other locally applicable statutory or regulatory levies.

Importantly, these revised FAK rates do not apply to IMO-regulated hazardous cargo or high-value commodities, which are subject to individualized pricing arrangements based on contractual terms or specific quotations.
