To ensure service continuity during the canal’s closure, alternative terminals and multimodal transport solutions—including road and rail connections—are being deployed.
The surcharge is set at €178 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) for each one-way barge movement between the designated alternative facilities and either CY Hengelo or CY Almelo. It applies uniformly to both inbound and outbound barge legs.
This measure takes effect on 25 July 2026 and will remain in force until further notice. The surcharge will be applied in addition to all applicable base freight rates and existing surcharges.
Pre-existing EBN Low Water Surcharges continue to apply where operational conditions warrant their imposition.
Hapag-Lloyd advises that the revised routing may result in extended transit times. Consequently, customers should anticipate potential delays and associated demurrage and detention liabilities, particularly if cargo handling or equipment return timelines are impacted.
