Big news! Maersk announces $1,000 increase per container
2026-07-31

The revised PSS applies uniformly to all container types—including dry, refrigerated (reefer), and specialized equipment—regardless of size or configuration.

The surcharge is set at USD 1,000 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) for shipments originating from North European ports, including but not limited to: Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden), the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), Poland, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Le Havre (France). It covers all U.S. destination ports, including mainland locations as well as non-contiguous territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, Hawaii, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The PSS applies exclusively to contractual (non-spot) bookings, determined based on the applicable Price Calculation Date (PCD) specified in the relevant service agreement. Spot-market bookings are expressly excluded from this surcharge.

Maersk states that this measure supports operational resilience and service reliability throughout the peak season, and remains subject to all terms and conditions stipulated in applicable contracts, as well as compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks—including those administered by the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC).
