Red Sea route returns! Maersk takes the lead
2026-07-20

The WAF6 service—operated solely by Maersk—links the Middle East, the Mediterranean, and West Africa. Under the revised routing, vessels will traverse the Red Sea between Salalah and the Western Mediterranean, replacing the previous Cape of Good Hope alternative.

This adjustment represents a further milestone in Maersk’s broader effort to restore Suez Canal-based connectivity across its network, following recent recalibrations to multiple Asia–Europe and Middle East services.

Maersk emphasized that it continues to closely monitor the security environment in the Red Sea region. Should conditions deteriorate, the carrier confirmed that robust contingency measures are in place—including the ability to revert individual voyages or the entire WAF6 service to the Cape of Good Hope routing.
