COSCO Shipping Lines has officially launched the North Africa Express (NAX) service—a dedicated container shipping route linking major Chinese ports with key North African terminals in Libya. The service enhances COSCO’s strategic footprint in the Mediterranean and North Africa region while reinforcing maritime connectivity between the Far East and North Africa.
The NAX service operates on a fixed schedule of one sailing every three weeks, deployed with three modern 80,000 DWT container-carrying vessels—each with an approximate capacity of 4,300 TEU. These vessels are owned by COSCO Shipping Development Co., Ltd. and commercially operated by COSCO Shipping Bulk Co., Ltd.
The port rotation comprises Ningbo, Shanghai, Nansha, Port Said (Egypt), Benghazi (Libya), Misurata (Libya), and concludes with a return call at Qingdao.
This new service expands COSCO’s end-to-end logistics capabilities in the region, offering enhanced frequency, reliability, and capacity to support growing bilateral trade—particularly inbound and outbound cargo flows involving the Libyan market.
