Update on Salalah port disruption
2026-04-04

Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have issued joint operational advisories following a security incident at the Port of Salalah, Oman, on 28 March 2026, involving unauthorized drone activity and reported explosions.

Both carriers confirmed the temporary suspension of port operations after a terminal crane sustained damage and a port worker sustained minor injuries. As a precautionary measure, the terminal was fully evacuated, and local authorities—supported by port management—are conducting a comprehensive safety and security assessment.

Maersk confirmed that all crew members aboard its vessels are safe and accounted for, with no vessels or cargo impacted to date. The company estimates that port operations may remain suspended for approximately 48 hours, pending official clearance; this timeline remains subject to revision based on ongoing assessments.

Hapag-Lloyd likewise verified the safety of its personnel and reported no structural damage or operational impact to its vessel *Lisbon Express*. In accordance with its security protocols, the vessel was repositioned outside the port limits immediately following the incident.

Both carriers advise that the disruption may result in vessel schedule deviations and cargo handling delays across affected services. They emphasize that they are actively monitoring the situation in close coordination with Omani port authorities and national agencies, and will provide timely updates as material developments occur.
