Hapag-Lloyd has announced an update to the Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) applicable to shipments originating from Asia and Oceania bound for multiple ports across West and Central Africa.
This surcharge will apply to cargo originating from China, Southeast Asia and South Korea, with destinations including Angola, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Cameroon, Namibia and several other West African countries.
Furthermore, a separate PSS will be levied on cargo originating from Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji bound for selected West African ports, namely Freetown, Monrovia and Conakry.
The revised surcharge will be effective for all cargo loaded on or after 8 April 2026 and remains in effect until further notice.
For most destinations, the PSS will be set at USD 500 per TEU and will be applicable to all container types.
However, cargo destined specifically for Conakry, Guinea, will be subject to a substantially higher surcharge of USD 2,200 per TEU.
Hapag-Lloyd noted that the updated surcharge reflects current market conditions and operational factors impacting trade flows to the aforementioned region.
