YML issues Middle East GS2 service update
2026-04-01

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has announced operational adjustments to its GS2 service in response to the deteriorating security environment in the Middle East.

The company cited recent incidents—including multiple attacks on commercial vessels—in and around the Strait of Hormuz as posing significant navigational and safety risks to maritime operations.

As a precautionary measure, Yang Ming confirmed that upcoming GS2 service vessels will temporarily suspend scheduled port calls in the region and instead remain on standby in proximity to the Middle East. Notably, these vessels will not proceed to Indian ports for cargo discharge as originally planned.

Yang Ming is actively monitoring evolving security conditions in coordination with relevant maritime authorities and industry partners. Normal service operations will be resumed only upon confirmation that conditions meet stringent safety and operational standards.

Once the security situation stabilizes and port authorities formally confirm operational readiness, affected vessels are expected to proceed directly to designated Middle Eastern ports to complete cargo discharge. Specific implementation timelines and port-specific arrangements will be communicated promptly as circumstances permit.

The carrier further advised that emergency operational measures may give rise to additional costs—including, but not limited to, surcharges, extended detention/demurrage, terminal handling charges, transshipment fees, and associated administrative expenses. Such costs shall be borne by cargo interests in accordance with the contractual terms stipulated in the applicable bill of lading.

Yang Ming reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the safety and security of its vessels, crew, and cargo, and pledged to provide timely, transparent updates as the situation develops.
