CMA and MSC, two major shipping giants, jointly reroute through the Suez Canal!
2026-10-26

The service is branded as “Newmo” by CMA CGM and “Australia Express” by MSC.

By reverting to the shorter Suez Canal routing, the carriers will reduce the vessel deployment on this loop from 18 to 16 units. The revised fleet will consist of vessels with an average nominal capacity of approximately 9,000 TEUs, while port coverage and call sequence remain fully unchanged.

Service rotation (North Europe–Australasia):

London Gateway → Rotterdam → Hamburg → Antwerp → Le Havre → Valencia → La Spezia → Marseille → Port Réunion → Port Louis → Sydney → Melbourne → Adelaide → Fremantle → Singapore → Ennore → Colombo → London Gateway.

This restoration of bidirectional Suez Canal transits eliminates the extended Cape of Good Hope detour, thereby improving schedule reliability and reducing required vessel count without compromising frequency or coverage.

The decision follows a measured, service-specific reintegration of the Suez Canal by major container carriers throughout 2026. Nevertheless, ongoing operational assessments continue to inform voyage planning, with individual sailings subject to real-time evaluation of Red Sea security conditions and navigational safety.
