Maersk Honduras freight rates hike hides major pitfalls
2026-10-19

Maersk will increase its Intermodal Fuel Surcharge (IFS) for truck-based inland transportation in Honduras, effective 9 October 2026 for non-Federal Maritime Commission (FMC)-regulated shipments and 9 November 2026 for FMC-regulated shipments. This adjustment reflects ongoing volatility in global energy markets and aligns the surcharge with current diesel fuel cost indices.

The surcharge rate will rise from 10% to 14% of the applicable base freight charge and will apply uniformly to both import and export container movements transported by road.

The revised IFS will be itemized separately on customer invoices—labeled as “Import Fuel Surcharge” for inbound shipments and “Export Fuel Surcharge” for outbound shipments—to ensure full transparency and regulatory compliance.

This surcharge replaces the 10% Intermodal Fuel Surcharge introduced in April 2026. Maersk reserves the right to revise the rate further, subject to prevailing energy market conditions and in accordance with applicable commercial terms and regulatory requirements.
