The Chinese carrier will market this capacity under the unified branding “Mediterranean Canada Service (MECA)”.
The full MCA port rotation is as follows:
Salerno → Livorno → Genoa → Marseille → Sagunto → Algeciras → Tangier → Vigo → Saint John → Montreal → Tangier → Salerno.
Under the slot charter agreement, COSCO Shipping Lines will not serve Vigo (Spain) or Saint John (Canada); its participation is limited to the remaining ports in the loop.
This arrangement follows a parallel slot charter collaboration between Hapag-Lloyd and OOCL—COSCO’s affiliated carrier—which also participates in the same Mediterranean–Canada service.
By leveraging this slot charter, COSCO expands its service coverage between key Mediterranean gateway ports and Montreal without deploying dedicated vessels, thereby enhancing network efficiency and resource utilization.
