Surging 24%! Maersk suddenly drops a bombshell
2026-10-13

The FSC is applicable to import and export shipments where Canada serves as either the origin or destination, specifically covering the Canadian drayage portion of such movements. The surcharge is calculated as 24% of the base inland haulage fee.

Key implementation parameters are as follows:

  • Surcharge level: 24% of the applicable inland haulage charge

  • Effective date: 1 November 2026

  • Review frequency: Monthly, subject to adjustment based on prevailing energy market conditions

  • Export charge code: EFS

  • Import charge code: IFS

  • Booking scope: Carrier Haulage and Multi-Carrier arrangements

Maersk attributes this adjustment to sustained increases in global energy prices and regional fuel supply constraints, both intensified by ongoing geopolitical developments in the Middle East. For non-FMC-regulated shipments, the Price Calculation Date (PCD) corresponds to the estimated departure date of the first vessel indicated in the most recent booking confirmation. For FMC-regulated shipments, the PCD is defined as the date on which Maersk—or an authorized agent acting on its behalf—takes physical possession of the final container listed on the transport document.

In cases where customers elect to add inland destination services after cargo has departed from its origin, the applicable FSC will be determined based on the import shipment creation date.
