The service operates on a biweekly schedule—departing every other Monday—with each train carrying 44 forty-foot equivalent units (FEUs). Capacity is scalable to accommodate future demand growth.
Fiskarheden exports approximately 90% of its annual production. Its sawn timber serves diverse end-use sectors, including furniture manufacturing, construction, and concrete formwork.
Developed by TFK Logistics, the new rail connection offers a cost-efficient, reliable, and scalable inland transport solution to international maritime gateways via the Port of Gothenburg. The service is available not only to Fiskarheden but also to other industrial stakeholders across the Dalarna region.
Joakim Limberg, CEO of Fiskarheden, emphasized that the reactivation of rail freight to Gothenburg supports the company’s strategic objective of maximizing rail-based inland transportation—consistent with its broader sustainability and operational efficiency goals.
He further noted the potential for return-trip utilization: containers returning from Gothenburg to Dalarna could be loaded with imported goods. Ongoing collaborative discussions with regional enterprises are exploring bidirectional logistics solutions to enhance asset utilization and strengthen regional supply chain resilience.
Richard Mellgren, Senior Business Development Manager at the Port of Gothenburg, characterized the initiative as a benchmark example of Railport Scandinavia’s value proposition—enabling inland exporters to access global shipping networks efficiently, reliably, and sustainably.
