Hapag-Lloyd imposes exorbitant surcharges on East Caribbean route!
2026-09-21

Hapag-Lloyd announces an adjustment to its Transport Additional Origin (TAO) and Transport Additional Destination (TAD) charges for dry, refrigerated (reefer), and eligible dangerous goods container shipments to and from the Eastern Caribbean Islands, effective 4 October 2026 for non-FMC-regulated countries and 14 October 2026 for FMC-regulated countries. The revised charges will remain in effect until 7 March 2027.

This adjustment reflects increased third-party feeder service costs and applies uniformly across a broad geographic scope, including ports in the Bahamas, U.S. Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Dominica, Sint Maarten, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Turks and Caicos Islands, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, and other Eastern Caribbean island markets.

Charge levels vary by equipment type, cargo category, and destination. For standard dry containers, TAO/TAD rates range from USD 2,127 to USD 4,577 for 20-foot units and from USD 3,254 to USD 6,554 for 40-foot units. Refrigerated container charges are higher, ranging from USD 2,500 to USD 4,950 for 20-foot reefers and from USD 3,800 to USD 7,700 for 40-foot reefers—with the highest applicable rate being USD 7,700 per 40-foot reefer, levied for shipments to Cayman Brac. Dangerous goods surcharges for eligible dry cargo shipments range from USD 2,302 to USD 4,752 (20-foot) and from USD 3,604 to USD 6,904 (40-foot).

TAO applies exclusively to export shipments; TAD applies exclusively to import shipments. All future adjustments—subject to operational or regulatory developments—will be communicated via individual service quotations.
