Hapag-Lloyd will launch a temporary weekly rail service between Rotterdam and Germersheim, effective 18 September to 31 December 2026, to bolster inland transport capacity amid critically low water levels on the Rhine River. This initiative serves as a strategic complement to the carrier’s existing barge operations along the Rotterdam–Rhine corridor.
The inaugural export train will depart Germersheim on 18 September and is scheduled to arrive in Rotterdam on 19 September. The first import train will depart Rotterdam on 19 September, with an expected arrival in Germersheim on 21 September.
The rail service will provide a weekly capacity of 88 TEUs in each direction, enhancing supply chain resilience and offering shippers a reliable, time-definite alternative during periods of navigational constraint on the Rhine.
