Maersk's Hidden Fee Rules: 90% of People Don't Understand Them
2026-09-17

Applicable rates are as follows:

• USD 35 per 20-foot dry container;

• USD 70 per 40-foot dry container;

• USD 70 per 40-foot high-cube dry container.

This surcharge applies exclusively to origin depot storage services rendered prior to vessel loading and is levied on a per-container basis.

For non-spot bookings, the applicable rate is determined based on Maersk’s Price Calculation Date (PCD):

• For non-FMC-regulated shipments, the PCD corresponds to the scheduled departure date of the first ocean leg at the time of booking confirmation;

• For FMC-regulated shipments, the PCD is defined as the latest container gate-in date at the origin depot.

In addition to this surcharge, other locally applicable or contingency-related fees—such as depot handling, demurrage, or detention charges—may apply in accordance with Maersk’s published tariff terms and regulatory requirements.
