The upgraded weekly short-sea service strengthens maritime connectivity between southern Spain and Northwest Europe, with Setúbal, Portugal, serving as a dedicated transshipment hub for both import and export cargo.

According to WEC Lines, the enhancement responds to growing market demand for reliable, sustainable short-sea transport solutions—and offers a viable, environmentally preferable alternative to long-haul road freight.

ISS-PT port coverage  

The ISS-PT service will directly serve the following ports in Spain, Morocco, and Portugal:  

Valencia, Alicante, Cartagena, Almería, Málaga, Gibraltar, Huelva, Cádiz, and Nador (Morocco), with Setúbal and Sines (Portugal) integrated as core hubs.

Through Setúbal, customers gain seamless intermodal connections to WEC Lines’ broader network, including calls at:  

Thamesport, Liverpool, Dublin, Montoir, Antwerp, Moerdijk, Rotterdam, and Hamburg.

Vessel deployment and equipment  

The service will be operated by two dedicated vessels, each with a capacity of 868 TEUs, maintaining a consistent weekly frequency on a 14-day rotation cycle.

Standard equipment offerings include 45-foot high-cube pallet-wide containers. In addition, WEC Lines will provide temperature-controlled 40-foot and 45-foot refrigerated containers to support the transport of frozen and perishable goods.
