The surcharge is subject to monthly review, with adjustments aligned to prevailing global energy price trends. Maersk confirms that the current rates reflect sustained upward pressure on fuel costs, driven by elevated international crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical developments affecting energy supply chains—including persistent volatility in the Strait of Hormuz region.
For customers under customized pricing agreements, applicable IFS rates may differ and will be communicated individually by dedicated account managers.
The IFS was initially introduced on 1 April 2026 and applies uniformly to all landside and intermodal transport segments, including road haulage supporting containerized ocean shipments.
Special effective date provisions apply to Federal Maritime Commission (FMC)-regulated shipments: the updated rates will take effect on 21 September 2026 for such bookings.
For non-FMC shipments, the applicable IFS rate is determined based on the estimated departure date of the first ocean vessel, as confirmed in the latest booking confirmation.
In cases involving port (CY) bill of lading bookings—where inland transport is arranged independently of vessel scheduling—the IFS calculation date aligns with the actual container delivery or collection date, whichever occurs first.
Maersk reaffirms its commitment to transparent and data-driven surcharge management. Given the dynamic nature of global energy markets, the IFS remains subject to further monthly adjustments, with timely notifications issued in advance of any change.
