The GIA service extends HMM’s global network by establishing a fixed, end-to-end rotation linking key ports across the Gulf, India, and East Africa: Nhava Sheve → Mundra → Dar es Salaam → Mombasa → Mundra → Nhava Sheve. This strategic deployment responds to sustained growth in containerised trade demand across East Africa, driven by infrastructure development, rising domestic consumption, and deepening regional and international trade integration.  

The rotation connects one of the Gulf’s largest transshipment hubs—with Mundra, a major port on India’s west coast, and two of East Africa’s most consequential container gateways: Mombasa and Dar es Salaam. Mombasa serves as the principal maritime gateway for Kenya and functions as a vital import/export conduit for several landlocked neighbouring countries; Dar es Salaam supports Tanzania’s trade and plays an increasingly pivotal role in regional supply chains spanning East and Central Africa.  

By introducing the GIA service, HMM reinforces its commitment to emerging markets and enhances the geographic balance and resilience of its global network—which already spans Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East. The service provides shippers with a reliable, direct, and schedule-based solution for cargo movements between the Gulf, India, and East Africa—complementing existing services while addressing unmet capacity and connectivity needs in this high-potential corridor.
