This adjustment reflects elevated fuel procurement costs arising from ongoing geopolitical developments in the Middle East. Maersk emphasizes that the surcharge is strictly cost-recovery oriented and not intended as a profit-generating measure.
To ensure greater responsiveness to market volatility, Maersk will conduct weekly reviews of the fuel surcharge during this period—departing from its standard monthly review cycle. Updated rates will be published every Thursday, with no predefined price fluctuation threshold (“adjustment trigger”) applied.
The surcharges will be itemized on invoices as follows:
• EFS (Export Fuel Surcharge) for export-related inland movements;
• IFS (Import Fuel Surcharge) for import-related inland movements.
Maersk will monitor fuel cost trends and regional market conditions independently for each country. Consequently, further adjustments—including potential extensions, modifications, or country-specific revisions—may be implemented should cost dynamics or regulatory requirements evolve.
Pricing applicability dates are determined as follows:
• For non-FMC-regulated shipments: the price calculation date corresponds to the estimated vessel departure time of the first ocean leg, as stated in the most recent booking confirmation issued at the customer’s request.
• For FMC-regulated shipments: the calculation date is defined as the date on which Maersk—or an authorized agent acting on its behalf—takes physical possession of the final container listed on the applicable transport document. The revised surcharges will apply to FMC-regulated shipments effective 3 September 2026.
• For import shipments where the inland transport booking is initiated after cargo departure from origin: the applicable surcharge rate will be determined based on the system-generated creation date of the import shipment record.
FMC-regulated trades encompass all shipments originating from or destined to ports in the United States, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Puerto Rico.
Maersk confirms that these temporary surcharges will remain in effect only for the duration necessary to offset verifiable incremental fuel expenses incurred during the specified period.
