COSCO Shipping Lines and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) have jointly launched the China–Jeddah (CJX) service, a dedicated direct container shipping route linking major Chinese ports with Jeddah, Saudi Arabia’s principal Red Sea gateway. This initiative, reported by DynaLiners, reinforces bilateral maritime connectivity and supports growing trade volumes between China and the Kingdom.

The CJX service enhances both carriers’ strategic footprint in the Middle East and adds capacity on one of the region’s most dynamic trade corridors. Rising containerized import and export demand in Saudi Arabia—driven by sustained infrastructure investment and industrial expansion—underscores the timeliness and relevance of this new offering.

The service operates on a weekly rotation: Shanghai → Ningbo → Nansha → Jeddah → Shanghai, connecting three of China’s largest container handling hubs with Saudi Arabia’s key maritime gateway. By eliminating transshipment requirements, the direct service is expected to reduce end-to-end transit times and improve supply chain predictability for manufacturers in China and importers across Saudi Arabia.

In addition to serving domestic Saudi markets, Jeddah functions as a critical regional distribution node for cargo destined for broader Middle Eastern and East African markets. The CJX service thus contributes to enhanced network resilience and multimodal integration across these regions.

This launch reflects a broader industry trend: despite ongoing recalibrations in regional shipping networks—including adjustments related to Red Sea security dynamics—carriers continue to invest in dedicated, high-frequency services to meet robust Asia–Gulf trade demand. The CJX service further consolidates the long-standing operational partnership between COSCO Shipping Lines and OOCL, while expanding direct Asia–Saudi Arabia connectivity and offering shippers an additional reliable Red Sea corridor option.
