Freight rates on the North Africa & Mediterranean route will undergo significant changes

The revised FAK rates apply to dry cargo and paying empty containers loaded at major Mediterranean ports, and shall remain in effect until further notice.

Revised FAK Rates  

For shipments to the Middle East Gulf:  

  • West Mediterranean and Adriatic: USD 7,600 per 20-foot container and USD 7,800 per 40-foot container;  

  • Black Sea: USD 8,200 per 20-foot container and USD 8,400 per 40-foot container;  

  • East Mediterranean: USD 8,100 per 20-foot container and USD 6,300 per 40-foot container.  


For shipments to the Red Sea:  

  • West Mediterranean: USD 3,400 per 20-foot container and USD 3,600 per 40-foot container;  

  • Adriatic: USD 4,200 per 20-foot container and USD 4,400 per 40-foot container;  

  • Black Sea: USD 4,700 per 20-foot container and USD 4,900 per 40-foot container;  

  • East Mediterranean: USD 3,600 per 20-foot container and USD 3,800 per 40-foot container.  

The announced FAK rates encompass base ocean freight and applicable bunker adjustment factors (BAF). Additional charges—including terminal handling charges (THC), peak season surcharges (PSS), safety and security surcharges (SSS), contingency surcharges, and locally levied fees—may apply separately and are not included in the stated FAK rates.

Peak Season Surcharge (PSS)  

A PSS of USD 1,500 per TEU will be levied on dry cargo, out-of-gauge (OOG) cargo, and paying empty containers shipped from the Adriatic, East Mediterranean, and Black Sea regions to destinations in the Middle East Gulf and Red Sea.  

The same USD 1,500 per TEU PSS applies to shipments from the West Mediterranean and North Africa to the Middle East Gulf.  

For shipments from the West Mediterranean and North Africa to the Red Sea, the PSS will be USD 500 per TEU.
