Maersk has announced a comprehensive revision of its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) structure across multiple trade lanes, including Asia–Indian Subcontinent, Asia–Middle East, Asia–Africa, and Asia–North America routes. The adjustments reflect anticipated demand surges, port congestion pressures, and elevated operational costs during the upcoming peak shipping season.  

Effective dates vary by trade lane: new PSS rates will apply from 22 July, 1 August, and 15 August 2026, respectively, in alignment with regional market dynamics and service cycle requirements.  

For exports from the Far East to Indian subcontinent ports—including Jawaharlal Nehru Port (Nhava Sheva), Mundra, Pipavav, and selected Pakistani ports—a flat PSS of USD 300 per TEU will be implemented. This charge becomes effective on 22 July 2026 for shipments originating from most Asian countries; for South Korea, the effective date is 3 August 2026. The surcharge applies to all standard dry container bookings, excluding spot-market allocations.  

On the Asia–Tanzania corridor, Maersk has revised the PSS for shipments from China and Hong Kong to Dar es Salaam. Effective 1 August 2026, the surcharge will be USD 1,200 per 20-foot container and USD 1,800 per 40-foot or 45-foot container.  

For shipments from the Indian Subcontinent and Middle East to the US and Canadian West Coast, the PSS will be increased in two phased increments: rising from USD 3,000 to USD 4,000 per TEU on 4 August 2026, and further increasing to USD 5,000 per TEU effective 15 August 2026 through 31 December 2026.  

Revised PSS levels also apply to shipments destined for the US and Canadian East Coast and Gulf Coast. Rates are origin-specific and differentiated by container type. For dry containers, the highest applicable rate is USD 5,800 per TEU for shipments from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives to Houston; USD 5,000 per TEU for shipments from Pakistan; and USD 3,000 per TEU for shipments from Middle Eastern origins—effective 15 August 2026.  

Refrigerated container (reefer) shipments on the same trade lanes are subject to corresponding PSS adjustments: revised rates range from USD 3,700 to USD 4,000 per TEU, effective 15 August 2026, depending on origin and equipment type.  

Maersk emphasizes that all revised PSS amounts are applied in addition to base freight rates and remain subject to applicable local charges, contingency surcharges, and regulatory levies as stipulated in contractual terms and prevailing trade regulations.
