Maersk's inland transportation fees surge by 7.5%!
2026-07-24

Maersk has implemented an updated Inland Fuel Surcharge (IFS) for road transport operations in Greece, effective 20 July 2026, at a rate of 7.5% of the base inland transportation fee. This adjustment reflects sustained upward pressure on diesel prices, primarily driven by supply chain disruptions stemming from the ongoing geopolitical developments in the Middle East.

The surcharge is introduced as a temporary, operationally responsive measure—intended to mitigate the direct impact of elevated fuel costs on service delivery while safeguarding service reliability and schedule integrity. To enhance transparency and responsiveness, the IFS will now be reviewed and recalibrated on a weekly basis, with revised rates published every Friday for application in the subsequent week. During this interim period, the standard quarterly price trigger mechanism is suspended.

For export shipments, the surcharge will be itemized on invoices as the Export Fuel Surcharge (EFS); for import shipments, it will appear as the Import Fuel Surcharge (IFS). Maersk confirms that the surcharge remains subject to periodic reassessment and will remain in effect only for the duration necessary to offset verifiable fuel cost increases.

The carrier further stated that it continues to conduct granular, country-specific monitoring of fuel market dynamics and regulatory developments, and will adjust inland fuel surcharges accordingly where justified by objective cost data and operational requirements.
