Effective 15 July 2026, the HWS will apply to shipments from Far East Asia to Mexico. The surcharge is USD 150 per twenty-foot dry container with a Verified Gross Mass (VGM) exceeding 20 metric tons, and likewise USD 150 per forty-foot non-operating reefer (NOR) container with a VGM exceeding 23 metric tons.
For other Latin American destinations—including the West Coast of South America, Central America, and the Caribbean (excluding Colombia and Puerto Rico)—the existing HWS remains in effect: USD 400 per twenty-foot dry container with VGM > 20 metric tons, and USD 400 per forty-foot NOR container with VGM > 23 metric tons.
Colombia is subject to the same USD 400 rate. For Puerto Rico, the applicable rate is USD 200 per twenty-foot dry container with VGM > 20 metric tons and USD 200 per forty-foot NOR container with VGM > 25 metric tons.
Separately, effective 17 July 2026, Maersk will implement revised HWS levels for shipments originating from Shanghai, Qingdao, Xingang, and Dalian in China to Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. The surcharge is USD 200 per twenty-foot dry container with VGM > 20 metric tons and USD 200 per forty-foot NOR container with VGM > 23 metric tons. Covered ports of discharge include Santos, Itapoa, Itajai, and Paranagua (Brazil), Montevideo (Uruguay), and Buenos Aires (Argentina).
The HWS applies uniformly across all Maersk ocean transportation offerings, including contractual services, SPOT bookings, and Maersk Go solutions.
