This measure responds to persistently low water levels in the St. Lawrence River, which are constraining vessel draft and thereby reducing effective cargo capacity on this trade lane.  

The surcharge applies to all containerized shipments originating from the West Mediterranean, the Adriatic Sea, Israel, and Northern Europe—including the United Kingdom and the Scan-Baltic region.  

The SLW surcharge is set at USD 150 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) and USD 300 per forty-foot and forty-five-foot containers.
