ZIM's secret South American exclusive route revealed
2026-07-09

The ZFS will operate exclusively with ZIM-owned and operated vessels, reinforcing the carrier’s vertical integration and enhancing service reliability. This initiative expands ZIM’s Latin American network and strengthens direct maritime connectivity between Asia and key ports in Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay.

The port rotation is as follows:

Shanghai → Ningbo → Hong Kong → Yantian → Rio de Janeiro → Santos → Paranaguá → Navegantes → Montevideo → Buenos Aires → Shanghai

ZIM confirms that the ZFS offers industry-leading transit times on this trade lane. Specifically:

  • From Yantian to Rio de Janeiro: 24 days

  • From Yantian to Santos: 26 days

  • From Buenos Aires to Shanghai: 27 days (fastest return transit on the River Plate–Asia corridor)

  • From Buenos Aires to Ningbo: 29 days

The service is strategically designed to serve time-sensitive cargo originating from Southern China, particularly high-value electronics, pharmaceuticals, and perishables. It also addresses growing demand from South American agricultural and industrial exporters seeking faster, more reliable return connections to the Far East.

In addition to enhanced schedule reliability, the ZFS introduces improved direct access to Paranaguá and Rio de Janeiro—two critical gateways for Brazilian agri-commodity exports—and integrates seamlessly with ZIM’s global network via hub ports in Asia.

Reefer capacity has been prioritized across the service, with extensive reefer plug availability to support temperature-sensitive cargo. The service will also accommodate out-of-gauge cargo, IMO-classified dangerous goods, and electric vehicles (EVs), leveraging ZIM’s specialized vessel fleet and certified handling protocols.

The maiden voyage is scheduled for 13 September 2026, with the first sailing departing from Shanghai.

ZIM confirms that its existing Asia–South East Coast (ASE) service will continue operating in parallel until the full commercial ramp-up of the ZFS is completed.
