MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has announced revised Freight All Kinds (FAK) base rates for containerized shipments from the Far East—including ports in Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia—to Northern Europe, the Mediterranean region, North Africa, and the Black Sea. These rates become effective on 15 July 2026 and will remain in force until further notice, subject to a definitive expiry date of 31 July 2026.
The updated FAK base rates are as follows (in USD per TEU/FEU):
Northern Europe: USD 5,005 (20′ dry van) / USD 7,700 (40′ dry van/high cube)
Western Mediterranean & Adriatic: USD 5,100 / USD 7,700
Eastern Mediterranean: USD 5,100 / USD 7,600
Black Sea: USD 5,200 / USD 7,800
North Africa:
Algeria: USD 6,800 / USD 10,100
Libya: USD 6,500 / USD 9,400
Casablanca (Morocco): USD 5,800 / USD 8,700
Tunisia: USD 6,600 / USD 9,700
These base rates incorporate ocean freight, the Global Fuel Surcharge (GFS), and Emission Control Area (ECA) surcharges. They do not include the Carbon Limitation Surcharge (CLS) or Carbon Review Surcharge (CRS), which will be applied separately in accordance with MSC’s published sustainability surcharge framework.
Notably, the stated FAK rates exclude shipments classified as IMO-regulated hazardous cargo and high-value commodities (e.g., semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and luxury goods), for which separate contractual or spot-rate arrangements apply.
