Big news! COSCO leads the charge in securing Spain's port project
2026-07-03

The consortium attended the official award ceremony hosted by the Port Authority on the same day. However, the formal grant of the concession remains conditional upon: (i) the incorporation of a dedicated project company; (ii) the execution of a definitive concession agreement with the Port Authority; and (iii) the completion of all statutory approvals, regulatory registrations, and other legally required procedures under Spanish law.

The terminal will be situated within the Andalucía Wharf area of the port and is designed as an open-access, multi-purpose facility capable of handling containerized cargo, general cargo, roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vehicles, project cargo, and other non-containerized freight.

The facility will be operationally integrated with the adjacent La Boella rail-port terminal, thereby establishing seamless intermodal connectivity between maritime and rail transport networks.

The total estimated investment for the project amounts to approximately EUR 144.6 million, inclusive of applicable taxes, financing costs, and associated expenses. COSCO SHIPPING Ports Limited’s capital contribution will be commensurate with its equity stake in the consortium.

Upon full commissioning, the terminal is projected to support a diversified throughput portfolio, including containers, general cargo, RoRo units, rail-borne cargo, and wheeled or oversized project cargo.

This award marks a strategic milestone in COSCO SHIPPING Ports Limited’s expansion of its European Mediterranean port network and reinforces its commitment to building integrated, multimodal logistics infrastructure across the region.

As the transaction is expected to meet the disclosure thresholds under the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) Listing Rules, COSCO SHIPPING Ports Limited issued a formal announcement on the same day, in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
