MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has announced the discontinuation of its Indus Express service, which links the US East Coast with the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent. Launched in 2014, this service will cease operations following a strategic review of network efficiency and trade lane alignment.
Originally expanded in 2017 to include ports in the Middle East Gulf, the Indus Express underwent several route adjustments in recent years to adapt to evolving market demand and operational requirements. At the time of withdrawal, its rotation included Port Qasim (Pakistan), Nhava Sheva (India), Mundra (India), Caucedo (Dominican Republic), Freeport (Bahamas), Savannah (USA), Charleston (USA), Norfolk (USA), Baltimore (USA), and New York (USA).
MSC will retain its Indusa service—a complementary offering launched in 2020—which continues to serve the same geographic region as part of the carrier’s current network portfolio.
This decision aligns with broader industry-wide efforts toward network rationalization, reflecting ongoing adaptations to shifting cargo flows, port call efficiencies, and the structural evolution of both east-west and north-south global trade corridors.
