1. Turkey–East Coast of South America Trade Lane
The PSS applies to all dry container shipments originating from Turkish ports—including Ambarli, İzmir, Korfez, Mersin, İskenderun, Gemlik, and Gebze—and destined for ports in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
• Effective date: 1 May 2026, until further notice.
• Applicable equipment: 20-foot dry containers; 40-foot and 45-foot high-cube dry containers.
• Rate structure: USD 200 per TEU (20-foot equivalent unit) for 20-foot dry containers; USD 50 per TEU for 40-foot and 45-foot high-cube dry containers.
2. Japan & South Korea–Kenya Trade Lane
A separate PSS applies to dry and refrigerated container shipments from Japan and South Korea to Kenya.
• Effective date: 1 May 2026, until further notice.
• Applicable equipment: 40-foot dry containers, 45-foot high-cube dry containers, and 40-foot refrigerated containers (reefers).
• Rate structure: A uniform rate of USD 300 per TEU across all eligible equipment types.
• Important note: This surcharge applies exclusively to non-spot bookings; it is not levied on spot-market shipments.
Rate Determination Mechanism:
• For non-spot bookings on both trade lanes, the applicable PSS is determined based on the Price Calculation Date (PCD), defined as the scheduled departure date of the first sea leg at the time of booking confirmation.
• In FMC-regulated trades (e.g., U.S.-origin or U.S.-destination services), the PCD is instead defined as the last container gate-in date—consistent with Federal Maritime Commission regulatory requirements.
• All PSS amounts are invoiced and collected in accordance with Maersk’s standard freight payment terms and conditions.
Maersk states that these targeted, time-bound surcharges are operationally grounded measures—designed not as revenue-generating instruments, but to offset incremental costs associated with peak-season capacity procurement, vessel repositioning, inland equipment management, and enhanced service execution. The adjustments support Maersk’s commitment to predictable scheduling, on-time performance, and end-to-end supply chain resilience during periods of elevated cargo volume.
