Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced a comprehensive restructuring of its Asia–U.S. East Coast container shipping network, encompassing the Empire, Amberjack, and Emerald services. The adjustments—effective in mid-2026—are designed to strengthen schedule reliability, mitigate port congestion exposure, optimize regional port coverage, and reduce end-to-end transit times across this critical transpacific trade corridor.
Under the revised Empire service, Qingdao will be removed from the port rotation. Jacksonville and Miami will be replaced by Norfolk and Port Everglades, respectively—enhancing access to high-capacity, less congested U.S. East Coast gateways. The updated sequence is: Shanghai → Ningbo → Busan → New York → Baltimore → Norfolk → Port Everglades → Rodman (Panama) → Shanghai. This reconfiguration is projected to improve on-time performance and vessel utilization. The new rotation will commence with voyage GE622E, with an estimated arrival in Shanghai on 25 May 2026.
The Amberjack service undergoes a strategic repositioning to prioritize northern Chinese export hubs: Qingdao is introduced as the inaugural port of loading—preceding Ningbo, Shanghai, and Busan—while Yantian and Xiamen are removed from the loop. On the U.S. East Coast, Norfolk is substituted with Jacksonville as the final discharge port, aligning with evolving cargo flow patterns and terminal capacity availability. The revised rotation reads: Qingdao → Ningbo → Shanghai → Busan → Manzanillo (Mexico) → Cartagena (Colombia) → Charleston → Savannah → Jacksonville → Kingston (Jamaica) → Busan → Qingdao. The updated service will launch with voyage 8E, scheduled to arrive in Qingdao on 20 May 2026.
For the Emerald service, Kaohsiung (Taiwan) will be replaced by Xiamen as the concluding Asian port of loading—establishing a direct, dedicated connection between Xiamen and major U.S. East Coast ports, including Charleston, Savannah, and New York. The revised loop is: Singapore → Vung Tau → Haiphong → Yantian → Xiamen → Kingston → Charleston → Savannah → New York → Boston → Singapore. This adjustment enhances connectivity for southern Fujian Province exporters and supports balanced cargo distribution across the U.S. East Coast. The service will begin operations with voyage 16E, with an anticipated arrival in Singapore on 16 May 2026.
Collectively, these network enhancements reflect MSC’s proactive approach to network resilience and customer-centric service delivery. By refining port sequences, rebalancing geographic coverage, and prioritizing infrastructure-efficient terminals, MSC reinforces its commitment to delivering predictable, efficient, and competitively timed solutions for shippers engaged in Asia–U.S. East Coast trade.
