MSC restructures Albatros service
2026-04-18

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has restructured the Albatros service as part of its ongoing network optimization initiative according to the news, transitioning it from a round-the-world loop to a dedicated Europe–Far East round-trip service. This adjustment follows a comprehensive review of trade lane demand, port utilization, and operational efficiency across MSC’s global network.

Under the revised configuration, Freeport (Bahamas) and New York—both introduced in August 2023 under a prior service update—have been removed from the rotation. Consequently, the Albatros service no longer operates as a global loop.

To reinforce regional connectivity and improve transit time consistency, MSC has incorporated two strategic port calls: Klaipėda (Lithuania) and Singapore (reinstated as a key hub). The updated weekly rotation is as follows:

Felixstowe → Bremerhaven → Gdańsk → Klaipėda → Antwerp → Felixstowe → Singapore → Ningbo → Tianjin → Dalian → Kwangyang → Ningbo → Shenzhen (Yantian) → Singapore → Felixstowe.

This restructuring supports MSC’s broader objective of enhancing schedule reliability, reducing average transit times, and optimizing vessel deployment between Europe and Asia—while preserving full coverage of major gateway ports along core trade corridors.
