Ocean Alliance launches CBX service
2026-04-11

Ocean Alliance has launched the Chesapeake Bay Express (CBX), a new weekly direct container shipping service linking major ports across Asia—including Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Shanghai and Ningbo (China), Busan (South Korea), and Kobe (Japan)—with the Port of Jacksonville, Florida. The inaugural CBX vessel is scheduled to call at Jacksonville in May 2026.

The service transits the Panama Canal and serves key U.S. East Coast ports en route, with Jacksonville designated as the final port of discharge and export loading port. This dedicated rotation enhances end-to-end transit time reliability and provides shippers with greater routing flexibility between Asian manufacturing hubs and the U.S. Southeast market.

Cargo handling will be conducted at the SSA Jacksonville Container Terminal on Blount Island, operated by SSA Marine. The terminal features a 47-foot deepwater channel, modernized gantry cranes, and expanded yard capacity—infrastructure upgrades completed under the Port’s ongoing capital improvement program.

As the southernmost U.S. East Coast port capable of accommodating post-Panamax vessels on regular rotation, Jacksonville serves as a strategic gateway for both export cargo consolidation and equipment repositioning. Further reinforcing its competitive positioning, the Jacksonville Port Authority is advancing a $120 million air draft enhancement project at Blount Island, targeting completion by end-2026 to accommodate next-generation ultra-large container vessels with increased height clearance.

This CBX service underscores Ocean Alliance’s continued commitment to strengthening trans-Pacific connectivity and supporting resilient, diversified supply chains across North America.
