Hapag-Lloyd has announced the implementation of revised Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) effective for containerized shipments originating from Europe to North America and Mexico, with differentiated application across geographic origin zones and equipment types.
Effective 20 April 2026—and until further notice—PSS will apply to all container types (including dry, refrigerated, and high-cube units) on services from Northern Europe to North America and Mexico. The applicable rates are USD 250 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) and USD 500 per forty-foot equivalent unit (FEU), inclusive of both standard and high-cube 40-foot containers.
Separately, a distinct PSS has been introduced for shipments originating from Italy, Spain, and Portugal to the United States. This surcharge takes effect on 1 May 2026 and covers dry, refrigerated, and special-purpose containers—including 40-foot high-cube units. The corresponding rates are USD 300 per TEU and USD 600 per FEU.
Hapag-Lloyd confirmed that base ocean freight rates, Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF), Security Surcharge (SSC), and Terminal Handling Charges (THC) remain unchanged. Local charges, contingency surcharges, and other destination-specific fees—as stipulated in applicable tariff publications—continue to apply at prevailing levels.
