In September, labor unions postponed a strike following the signing of a deal revising wages and other employment terms.

The decision to strike was made at the National Coordination Committee of Port and Dock Workers’ meeting in Goa on November 23. The committee appeared to voice concern and protest the authorities’ delay in enforcing statutory agreements.

Indian dockworkers are set to stage demonstrations at key ports on December 5 and plan a large-scale protest outside the administrative buildings of major ports, seeking the enforcement of settlements. Port pensioners, who stand to gain from the wage agreement, are also reported to be protesting at all major port offices on December 10.

In response, international container carriers are proactively preparing for potential strikes, striving to reduce any potential disruptions and maintain business operations.

“As the situation unfolds, our teams are working to assess any impact on operations and are in close communication with all relevant parties to ensure delivering the latest updates that might impact your cargo planning,” said Hapag-Lloyd in a customer advisory.
