Chancay Port Terminal, developed and financed by Cosco Shipping Ports, is situated approximately 60 kilometers north of Lima, the capital of Peru. This new deepwater port features a draft depth ranging from 16 to 18 meters and is designed to handle an annual capacity of 1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU). It is capable of accommodating containerships with a capacity of up to 14,000 TEU, with future expansions planned to facilitate vessels with a capacity of 24,000 TEU.
The initial phase of the project includes the construction of four operational berths, comprising two dedicated container berths and two multi-purpose berths. A trial operation period is scheduled to take place from November 2023 to May 2024. Upon the commencement of commercial operations, the port is expected to significantly reduce the shipping transit time between Peru and China from the current 35-40 days to just 23 days, positioning itself as a key international transit hub in South America.
