According to knowledgeable officials, Paradip Port is set to enhance its infrastructure by adding three new berths, mechanizing four existing ones, and establishing a dedicated dock for green hydrogen. The port aims to achieve full automation by 2030, with these initiatives being integral to that vision. The goal is to increase its handling capacity from the current 289 MTPA to over 400 MTPA by 2030, and further expand to 500 MTPA by 2047.

An official noted that the mechanization of berths is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency, reduce handling times, and enhance overall productivity, although this will require an investment exceeding Rs 2,500 crore. Additionally, the port plans to develop a specialized berth for green hydrogen and green ammonia, with a capacity of 5 MTPA, projected to be operational by 2026 at a cost of Rs 325 crore.

Furthermore, four investors have entered into agreements to establish green ammonia and green hydrogen production facilities in the vicinity, with a total investment of Rs 50,800 crore anticipated for these projects.
