Urgent Notice! CMA CGM Issues Price Hike Ultimatum to Clients in Central & West Africa
2026-10-17

Effective October 22, 2026, the carrier will implement increased PSS rates for both dry and reefer cargo shipped from China and its Special Administrative Regions to multiple West African markets.

For shipments to the Central West Africa region, including Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, and Togo, the adjusted surcharge will be US$350 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU).

Cargo bound for the South West Africa region, which includes Angola, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, Gabon, and Cameroon, will be subject to a PSS of US$550 per TEU.

The same surcharge of US$550 per TEU will apply to the North West Africa region, covering Liberia, Senegal, Mauritania, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, and São Tomé and Príncipe.

The PSS for Conakry, Guinea will remain unchanged at US$200 per TEU.

These new West African surcharges are applicable to short-term contracts.

Updated PSS for Mogadishu

In a separate adjustment, CMA CGM will introduce a Peak Season Surcharge of US$100 per TEU for all cargo transported from the Far East to Mogadishu.

This surcharge will take effect on October 15, 2026, based on the date of loading, and will remain in effect until further notice.

CMA CGM has stated that for shipments originating in China, the announced surcharges will be subject to filing with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and/or incorporated into the applicable PSS component of the ocean freight rate.

The latest adjustment follows a series of prior surcharge revisions by the French carrier across its African trade routes, as it updates pricing across multiple service lanes.
