Mr. Boenaes joined Hapag-Lloyd in 2020 after more than two decades of progressive leadership at Maersk, where he began his maritime career in 1993. He advanced to Vice President and Head of Africa Trades in 2009, and later served as Senior Vice President, Network, for Maersk’s liner business from 2014. Notably, he played a pivotal role in establishing and implementing the Gemini Cooperation—a strategic vessel-sharing alliance between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk.
Concurrently, the Supervisory Board has extended the contract of Dheeraj Bhatia, Chief Terminal & Infrastructure Officer (CTIO), through 31 December 2029. Mr. Bhatia has been a member of Hapag-Lloyd’s Executive Board since January 2024 and serves as Chief Executive Officer of Hanseatic Global Terminals—the dedicated entity consolidating and managing Hapag-Lloyd’s global terminal and infrastructure assets. Prior to his Executive Board appointment, he held successive regional leadership roles, including responsibility for India and subsequently for the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Africa region. Under his leadership, Hanseatic Global Terminals has evolved into an integrated global terminal operating platform, supporting the sustained expansion of Hapag-Lloyd’s terminal footprint.
Karl Gernandt, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, stated: “Anders Boenaes brings exceptional operational expertise and strategic vision to the COO role—making him an ideal leader for this critical function. Likewise, Dheeraj Bhatia’s continued leadership is instrumental in advancing our vertically integrated infrastructure strategy.”
