The suspension will be effective from 18 to 25 September 2026, inclusive.
Affected cargo categories
The temporary service restrictions apply to the following three categories of specialized cargo:
Dangerous Goods (DG)
Out-of-Gauge (OOG) cargo
Refrigerated (Reefer) cargo
KMTC advises that the scope and applicability of these restrictions may vary by Japanese port, depending on local terminal operational conditions—including, but not limited to, adjusted gate operating hours and reduced handling capacity during the holiday period. Notably, even at ports normally equipped to handle DG, OOG, or reefer cargo, certain shipments may still be subject to limitations due to logistical constraints arising from holiday-related operational adjustments.
Additional handling requirements
For safety and regulatory compliance, KMTC requires direct consignee pickup upon discharge for the majority of DG and OOG shipments. Customers are strongly advised to confirm port-specific service advisories and restriction details with KMTC’s local representatives or via official channel communications prior to shipment booking.
These temporary measures reflect KMTC’s proactive response to anticipated reductions in port throughput and terminal staffing levels across Japan during the 2026 Silver Week holiday period.
