The 35-metre-tall, 5-metre-diameter sail will be designed, manufactured, and delivered by Anemoi, which will also provide engineering support and installation supervision. Installation is scheduled for mid-2027, followed by operational testing during the vessel’s scheduled North and South Atlantic voyages.
Rotor Sails harness aerodynamic lift from wind to generate auxiliary thrust—reducing fuel consumption and associated emissions under favourable weather and routing conditions. While Anemoi has previously deployed this technology on bulk carriers and other vessel types, the Maersk project represents its inaugural integration into container shipping.
